Favorite Classical Music Activities from Kids Can Listen, Kids

  • I just wanted to share with everyone how much I enjoy our Kids Can Listen, Kids Can Move  CD with the classical music on it. I did “Run, Run!” beginning of the school year with the cat sleeping and the little mice tip toeing around the cat looking for cheese and bread crumbs and the kids just ask for it every week. They come into the room and first thing out of their mouth is can we do cat and mouse? It’s also such a fun song to teach adagio and allegro. The last few weeks I did “Creatures of the Garden” and had the little bug that was buried in the sand get up, shake off the sand and put some costumes on to go trick or treating. Instead of running from a big truck, we ran from something the kids came up with (everything from ghosts to large pumpkins, children dressed up to a large banana - not sure what the banana was all about, but we went with it  J ) One child dressed up his bug as a little bird so he could fly away from anything chasing him. We had so much fun and all the while we are listening to these great classical pieces. I think I have done 20 of the 25 classical pieces from Kids Can Listen, Kids Can Move  by now, and every single one is a hit.

Lynn Kleiner A teacher shared this idea for Ecce Gratum, a big favorite from Kids Can Listen, Kids Can move, used with many age levels. Lynn, where you use shakers, I have all the barred instruments tremolo lightly on their "F" or both of their "Fs" (so there is the...  more
